Humility or Ego?

A Patient came  to consult me. After a detailed clinical examination and need based laboratory investigations I was still in a diagnostic dilemma. I did not agree with the diagnosis done by other doctors. I told the patient’s father”Dear Sir . It is better to have a second opinion and I will refer your daughter to my colleague. Immediately the father pounced at me and shouted””This only means that you do not confidence and faith in yourself.”Without reacting I replied””If a person has faith in himself within the limits of his knowledge he is humble. If he has blinded faith beyond the limits of his knowledge he is Egoist and Arrogant. Introspect within yourself to realise the limits a of your knowledge  and have faith in your knowledge within these boundaries so that you will then become enlightened.
