I came across a man who was dying. He was kind enough to request me to ask the last question before his soul departed. I asked him trembling with fear “What is your death wish?”
He stroked my scalp gently , wept and told me “ I had spent my whole life in probing into everyone’s life to know about them, their life and problems. I wasted my precious time in enquiring about other people’s personal life. Shortly, I will be breathing my last breath without knowing an atom about myself. Please do not squander your precious moments like me. Travel inward to every nook and corner to discover the self , I mean the atman. This is not just an advice to you but also to all your fellow human beings. You exist when you gossip but you live when you are travelling in the path of Self- Discovery.”
Tears trickled from my eyes and drenched his palms in gratitude for this pearl of wisdom.
