A young couple came to me for medical consultation yesterday. The nuances of clinical examination in Medicine always demand a detailed history taking. A good reliable history gives important clues to the correct diagnosis and you become Doctor Watson who is a creation of Sherlock Holmes. It is customary to ask the patient what is his or her profession is. There are certain diseases associated with certain professions like Repetitive Strain Syndrome which occurs in people who use the key board regularly. I asked the lady “ What do you do?”.She replied to me with a halo 😇 of arrogance “I mind my business.”I asked her with due respect and obedience “May I know what your husband does?”.She replied in the arrogant tone of Madam Hitler( I am not sure whether Hitler was a bachelor or married. Knowing that information will not confer enlightenment on me 🤣.) “He also minds his business. I do not mind his business and neither does he mind my business.”. There was a display of acceptance and bliss in her facial expression. This incident taught me this pearl of wisdom “How blissful and ecstatic our life would be if each of us mind our own business rather than be watch dogs 🐕 of the other person’s business. Years and decades of Time is wasted by us on fruitless observation and monitoring of others.”Utopia is still within our reach and we should make it there one day.🙏❤️
